Postdoctoral Scientist,
Systems Biology: Analysis of Biological Regulatory Network Dynamics
The Institute:- The Novartis Forschungsinstitut in Vienna, Austria is a
research centre of Novartis, one of the largest pharmaceutical companies in
the world. The Institute focuses on the discovery of drugs modulating the
immune response in various diseases. Research is carried out in a
stimulating international multidisciplinary environment where highly
qualified scientists with complementary backgrounds work together towards
the common goal of developing innovative new drugs.
The job:- We are currently seeking a young postdoctoral scientist who will
contribute to our efforts in applying systems biology methodology to
pharmaceutical research. The project will be focused on the analysis and
simulation of biological regulatory networks (signal transduction, intra-
and intercellular communication) using mathematical and statistical tools
from control theory and nonlinear dynamics. The position is for a fixed
3-year term.
The requirements:- The ideal candidate will have
ˇ a recent PhD in chemistry, physics, biochemistry, or computer science;
ˇ a very strong background in numerical mathematics (nonlinear
differential equations, sensitivity analysis), chaos theory and applied
statistics;
ˇ experience in computer simulation of dynamical systems (both
deterministic and stochastic), in particular chemical kinetics simulations;
ˇ excellent programming skills (preferably C/C++, Java under UNIX) and
strong motivation to develop new software;
ˇ very good command of English, the official company language;
ˇ critical, independent, goal-oriented thinking.
The compensation:- We offer a competitive package in addition to generous
