I am American and am 50% hungarian. Does anybody know how I can trace my
heritage from Hungary? All I know is what my relatives names were that came
to this country and that is it. If anybody can help with this drop me a
clue!
Thanks.

Kedves Gábor
Okay, I admit that Hungarians are part Mongolian (- according
to a biology teacher at my school who is Magyar he says that his daughter
does have a slight trace of the Mongolian eye-fold ("slit-eye")) since a
good friend of mine does have the prominent cheekbones, small eyes and
round head not uncommon among my race and my ancestor's geographic
neighbours. (But other than that she had blond hair, blue eyes and
light skin - not Mongoloid traits!!!) However it must be pointed out that
while there is no shame in a Magyar-Mongol relationship (hell I belong to
that Mongol race) it is not as common as the Caucasoid-Scythian-Turanian
element (which has only very trace amounts of Mongol blood/genes/
whatever) Sorry about that...

Nuntius is way better. However, if you want to deal with large
binaries (downloads, uploads) the YANW is better for that pur-
pose. As a matter of fact I have both apps.

Johanne,
The above is probably the best explanation and you have
guessed it very intelligently indeed (this is the sort of
thing we call an "educated guess" in English . . . :-)
Even if there is truth to the fact of Turks have taken
Hungarian slaves to that neck of the woods, that would
hardly explain how the entire Hungarian nation might have
originated in Egypt. The "gypsies" are indeed so-called
because people thought they came from Egypt rather than
India, and some people to this day confuse Hungarians
and gypsies . . .
Sincerely,
Steven C. Scheer

In article > Peter k Chong,

I've read a book from Béla Hamvas in which he state without
further elaboration on it, that Hungarians like all the other
asian ex-steppe dwellers *culturally* Chinese fragment-cul-
tures. It make sense for me. Last month i saw an exibition
called Old China and there were some astonishing pieces of
7000 years old. All the Mesopotamian & Sumerian things are
younger, afterthoughts, copies and slight modifications of
the older stuff.
The Chinese relation is stronlgy supported by the fact that
all the steppian cultures lived in the near neighbourhood of
China (sometimes they even conquered China). The Chinese
old historians extensively wrote about them. I could write:
exclusively because the Chinese were a quite closed bunch
of nations and they did not care of the world but the close
neighbourhood that could cause them trouble.
Some of the earliest large steppian migration started from
part of Asia which is north to China.
Hungarians as steppian nations formed somewere behind
the Ural mountains. The difference between Hungarian and
forexample Finnish quite large to assume that the forma-
tion has taken place so long ago when the Sumerian-Meso-
potamian culture could not kick in not just because of the
geographical circumstances (distance :-) but the time gap
as well.
The szekely runa-writings were also mentioned in an earlier
thread. I've read a study which stated that all the Turk runas
eventualy originates from the Chinese writing.
The genetic origin is different story, i am comfortable with
the idea of Turk origin. Taking everything into account we¨
can write:
Hungariannes = chinese culture + turkish gewnetics + finno-
ugric language. ;-) ;-)
It's quite a strange mixture, isn't it ?

The source of this confusion might be that Hungarian 'folk' music is quite
frequently played by 'ciganyzenekar' (gypsy-band) all over the World, and even
the Hungarian name is 'ciganyzene' (gypsy-music).
The other confusion is that because of the similar warfare the Magyars were
confused to the Huns, that's where the words Hungarian, Hongroise, Ungarische,
etc. comes from.
