I am. A safety valve goes into that screwhole that prevents the bottom
part from blowing up if the coffee duct is blocked.

You will need the proper part. If you have the leaflet for the coffee
maker you will be able to identify it well enough for a kind soul to
send you one. Otherwise you will need to give the bottom part to some-
one going to Hungary and ask them to buy some parts. While at it, get
some spare rubber sealing rings too as they tend to go brittle and flakey
after a while, especially if the thing is overcooked.

These might be the remnants of a broken safety valve.

I am coordinating a project for the Science Fiction Writer of America to
compile a listing of all science fiction short-stories which were
originally in English and were published abroad in translation in 1996.
I have relatively good information sources for much of Europe, but I have
no contacts in most of the former "Eastern Bloc" countries.

I am looking for contacts who would be willing to inform me about science
fiction stories published in translation in magazines or anthologies.
What I will need is the name and issue of the magazine, the names of the
stories, the authors, and the names of the translators.

Any information is appreciated.

Hi all

I am interested in national stereotypes. i.e. names of people used in
metaphors or idiomatic phrases, like "It's Greek to me", "Dutch
treat", "take the French leave" etc.

More specifically, I would ask you to send me, either by post or my
email, any case in your language with Greeks and Greece: idioms,
proverbs, phrases, metaphors, insults etc. Please do not hesitate if
such or such use may appear insulting.

Thanks in advance

We here in the US do have American Presidents who don't live in the
White House and Admirals without a fleet. Yet, we do call former Presidents
still as "Mr. President" in the US and retired admirals as "Admiral."
If the practice is OK in the US, why was it not OK in Hungary? After
all, Horthy *WAS* one -- if not THE -- highest ranking naval officers of
Austria-Hungary and during WW-I the A-H Navy under his command quite
embarrassed the much larger Italian Navy on the Adriatic. Horthy
distinguished himself with personal bravery during one of the naval
battles.

So, calling Horthy an "Admiral without a fleet" is not only a cheap shot,
but shows a total ignorance of the man's past.

Can someone explain to me why you are not supposed to raise a toast with
beer in Hungary? Something to do with one of those awful treaties signed by
Austria I believe. Or was this Hungarian friend of mine making this all up.

Legend has it that after the 12 martyrs of Arad were killed
the Austrians toasted with beer, adn this is why the
Hungarians won't toast with beer. In my eyes wine or
chmapagne is more appropriate for Toasting anyway :)

Simple: If you waste your time on the toast, your beer will be warm.
